I discovered this hidden in a crack in my sofa… please don’t tell me these are bed bugs.

I can definitely help identify what you found—but I’ll need to see it.

Please upload a clear photo of the insects or objects you found in the crack of your sofa. If possible:

  • Take a close-up in good lighting.
  • Include a coin or another small object for scale.
  • If there are several, photograph both an individual specimen and the group.

In the meantime, here are a few possibilities:

  • Bed bugs: Flat, oval, reddish-brown insects about 4–7 mm long. They often hide in seams and cracks near where people sleep or rest. You may also find tiny black spots (droppings), shed skins, or pale eggs.
  • Carpet beetles: Adults are small and rounded; the larvae are fuzzy or hairy and are often found in upholstered furniture.
  • Booklice, mites, or other small insects: These can sometimes be mistaken for bed bugs but have different shapes and behaviors.
  • Seeds, crumbs, or debris: Small bits of material can sometimes resemble insect eggs.

If the insects are biting people, or if you notice clusters of itchy bites along with bugs or dark spotting in the sofa, that makes bed bugs more likely—but a photo is the best way to tell.

Upload the image, and I’ll help you identify what you’re seeing.
