- Warm water
- Dish soap
- White vinegar (optional)
- A soft cloth or microfiber towel
- An old toothbrush or small cleaning brush
- Disinfecting cleaner (optional)
Steps
- Wipe away surface grime
- Mix warm water with a few drops of dish soap.
- Dip a cloth in the mixture and wipe the flush handle/button, surrounding plate, and lid area.
- Clean around edges and crevices
- Use an old toothbrush to scrub around seams where dirt, soap residue, and mineral deposits collect.
- Remove mineral buildup
- For white crusty deposits (common with hard water), apply a little white vinegar to a cloth and hold it on the area for a few minutes.
- Gently scrub and wipe clean.
- Avoid using vinegar on surfaces where the manufacturer warns against acids.
- Disinfect
- Apply a bathroom-safe disinfectant if desired.
- Follow the product’s contact time instructions before wiping.
- Dry and polish
- Finish with a dry microfiber cloth to remove streaks and bring back the shine.
Extra tip
If the flush handle is loose, wobbly, or has visible corrosion, cleaning may not restore it fully — tightening the nut inside the tank or replacing the handle may be the better fix. Turn off the water supply before working inside the tank.
