Does anyone know what kind of insect this is? I just found it on my son’s head.

I can help identify it, but I’ll need a clear photo of the insect to tell what it is.

Please upload an image showing:

  • The insect close up (top view if possible)
  • Its size (a coin, fingernail, or ruler next to it helps)
  • Any details like color, legs, wings, or whether it was attached to the skin or just crawling

Since you found it on your son’s head, a few possibilities include:

  • Head lice (small, wingless insects that cling to hair and lay tiny eggs/nits)
  • Ticks (often attached to the scalp and can look like a small dark bump)
  • Fleas or other small insects (less commonly found on the scalp)

Until you identify it:

  • Avoid crushing it with bare fingers if you’re unsure what it is.
  • If it was attached to the scalp, check the surrounding hair and scalp carefully.
  • If you suspect a tick, note how long it may have been attached and remove it carefully with fine-tipped tweezers if still present.

Upload the photo and I’ll take a closer look.
