A simple way to clean a fan without taking it apart:
- Turn off and unplug the fan for safety.
- Put a pillowcase or large cloth over the fan blades (if accessible through the grill).
- Hold the fabric around the blade and gently rotate the blades by hand. The dust will collect inside the cloth instead of flying everywhere.
- Remove the cloth and shake it outside.
- Use a vacuum cleaner with a brush attachment or a soft paintbrush to clean remaining dust from the grill and motor vents.
- Wipe the outside with a slightly damp microfiber cloth.
For a ceiling fan, you can use a pillowcase over each blade: slide it on, press lightly around the blade, and pull it off so the dust stays trapped inside.
Avoid spraying water or cleaner directly onto the fan motor or electrical parts.
