The best homemade weed killer: no poison (dries everything in 2 hours)

Posted on July 20, 2026 by Admin

A lot of “homemade weed killer” recipes online claim to kill weeds in a couple of hours, but the results depend on the plant, weather, and where it’s growing. A common non-commercial approach is a vinegar-based spray, which can dry out the leaves quickly, especially on small, young weeds.

Simple homemade weed spray

Ingredients

  • 1 liter (about 4 cups) white vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon dish soap (helps the spray stick to leaves)

How to use

  1. Mix the ingredients in a spray bottle.
  2. Spray directly onto the weed leaves on a dry, sunny day.
  3. Avoid soaking nearby plants you want to keep—the spray can damage them too.
  4. Give it time; tough weeds may need repeat treatment.

Important notes:

  • It works mainly by burning the foliage; deep-rooted weeds may grow back.
  • Avoid spraying near lawns, flowers, vegetables, or desirable plants.
  • Using salt as a “permanent weed killer” can harm soil and make areas difficult to grow in later.

For the best long-term weed control, removing roots, adding mulch, or improving ground cover usually works better than any spray alone.
